Tree Trimmer Insurance

What affects the cost of tree trimming insurance

There is no flat price for tree trimmer insurance. These are the factors underwriters weigh, and why the application asks what it asks.

Payroll and gross sales

Tree service general liability is often rated on payroll, sales or both. That is why gross annual sales and W-2 payroll are required, and why payroll is asked for each type of work you do.

Subcontractors

If your subcontractors carry their own $1,000,000 / $2,000,000 general liability and name you as an additional insured, their cost is usually treated separately. If they don't, carriers typically add what you pay them to your payroll, which raises the premium.

The type of tree work

  • Trimming versus full removals
  • The tallest trees you work on, and climbing versus bucket truck work
  • Crane-assisted removals
  • Work near power lines and utility line clearance
  • Storm clean-up, especially out of state
  • Work alongside highways, railroads or airports

History and limits

Prior claims, years in business, and the limits you choose all move the price. A new business can still get quoted; describe your previous experience on the application.
