Equipment insurance for tree services
General liability doesn't cover your own gear. Equipment coverage (often called inland marine) protects your chippers, grinders and saws if they are stolen or damaged.
This content is for general information only. It is not insurance advice, a quote, or an offer of coverage. Policy wording controls in all cases. Read the full disclaimer.
Option 1: Blanket miscellaneous equipment
Blanket coverage insures smaller tools without a list. On this application it is offered at up to $1,500 per item and $10,000 in total. It suits chainsaws, pole saws, blowers, climbing gear and hand tools.
Option 2: Scheduled equipment
Scheduling means listing each piece on the policy with its year, make, model and value. Each listed item is insured for the value you give it, so a stolen stump grinder is covered for what it is worth rather than capped at a blanket limit. To be scheduled, each piece must be valued over $2,500.
Don't have every serial number and model year handy? The application lets you give a total value and a short list now, and someone collects the details later.
What to schedule
- Wood chippers
- Stump grinders
- Skid steers and compact loaders
- Mini excavators
- Log loaders and grapples
- Aerial lifts not covered under auto
Common questions
Should I pick blanket or scheduled?
If your expensive equipment is worth more than $2,500 per piece, schedule it. Small tools fit under blanket coverage.
How should I value my equipment?
Use what it would cost to replace or its actual cash value, depending on how the policy settles claims. Ask which one applies when you review your quote.
